Very true, Andreas. The scans were conducted at a different resolution on different scanners. The comparison is certainly spurious, but when we were looking at the 3-d images, the differences (by eye) were huge. By visually matching specific structural areas, these scans were the best we could get. I was going to go into the details of this in the post but it was too technical, and I’m not an expert in this area, to be honest— it’s full-on stats. We are going to be conducting further analyses to compare specific regions and that’s what I’m really interested in. The main message of this post was to show people the workings of the brain.
